The Butler Transit Authority is revising a policy in order to improve the safety of riders and drivers.
The Authority’s board of directors recently amended the Mobility Device Policy that deals with transporting personal vehicles like bikes on the buses.
Previously riders have requested that they be able to ride the bus along with devices like electric scooters or gas-powered motorbikes. According to Executive Director John Paul, electric vehicle battery technology is still improving so a collision or malfunction while a vehicle is secured to a bus poses a danger.
The new policy specifies that only traditional bicycles are able to be transported on buses unless a device is necessary for a disabled rider.
