Eight western Pennsylvania football teams will have a shot at reaching state championship games this weekend, with at least two classifications guaranteed to have western representatives.
–In the Class 2A state Semifinals – Seton LaSalle will meet Farrell Saturday at 1pm at Ellwood City high school. Seton LaSalle won the WPIAL championship this past weekend and are 12-1. Farrell is the District 10 champion, who defeated Karns City in the First Round of the state tournament. The Steelers are 11-2 this season.
–Ellwood City high school will host two games this weekend, with Clairton meeting Greenville Friday night at 7pm. Clairton is 13-1 this season and won the Class 1A WPIAL title last weekend. Greenville enters the game 12-1 and are the District 10 champions.
Other Semifinal games:
–WPIAL Class 6A champion Central Catholic will meet undefeated Harrisburg at Altoona’s Mansion Park Saturday at 7pm. Central Catholic is 12-1 Harrisburg is 13-0.
–13-0 Peters Township will face 11-1 Bishop McDeavitt in the Class 5A Semifinals also in Altoona Saturday at 1pm.
–Friday night – Class 4A WPIAL champion Aliquippa, who are 9-3, will meet 13-0 Twin Valley at Mifflin County high school in Lewistown. Kick-off is 7pm.
–In the Class 3A Semifinals – 13-0 Avonworth, who are the WPIAL champions, will face 12-2 Penn Cambria Friday at 7pm at Indiana high school.
