Robert “Mort” D. Mortimer of Butler, PA, 87, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 1, 2025.
Robert was born on December 22, 1937, in Butler, and was the son of Gertrude Hempfling Cherry and Harry Mortimer.
On December 8, 1959, Bob married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Daugherty. They were happily married for 65 years. Family was most important to Bob. He is survived by his wife Beverly, and his five children Cindy (Andy) Walowen of Butler, PA; Donna (Mike) Osbourne of Butler, PA; Julie (Dave) Davis of Harrisville, PA; Robert (Leslie) Mortimer of Portersville, PA; and Brian (Brandi) Mortimer of Butler, PA. Bob has 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers James Mortimer, Kim Cherry, and two stepbrothers.
During his life, Mort proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and later in the Army National Guard. He retired from Berry Metal Company, after 24 years of service. What he loved most, however, was entertaining his family and friends with his many talents including walking on his hands, juggling eggs, and telling incredible stories (most of which were true). Mort was an avid golfer and bowler and in his younger years he was the ultimate camper, hunter, weightlifter, and gymnast. The list of his abilities seemed endless. For more than 30 years, he treasured his trips to Myrtle Beach, sharing laughter, sunshine, and memories with those he loved.
A man of deep faith, Mort enjoyed sharing the gospel with others. He was a devoted member of Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church, where he served as both deacon and elder. He generously volunteered his time with the Food Cupboard, funeral dinners, Meals on Wheels, and vacation Bible school. Mort was one of the most giving souls and he had a way of making everyone feel like the most important person in the world.
In closing, Bob (Father, father-in-law, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, and uncle) will deeply be missed, but we will forever hold his memory close in our hearts.
