A man is facing charges after he allegedly fled police and damaged a police cruiser after being taken into custody.
It was just before 2 a.m. on January 3rd when police were called to the Sheetz near Mars High School for a suspicious vehicle.
When officers approached the car, they identified the driver as 39-year-old Tyler Rutherford of Bridgeville, who was wanted on felony charges in Allegheny County.
Officers attempted to take Rutherford into custody, but he initially took off on foot.
Eventually police caught him and placed him in the police cruiser. While officers collected more information, Rutherford was able to escape out of the vehicle and ran toward a construction site. Police took him back into custody, but found he damaged the cruiser while escaping.
Rutherford was charged with two counts of flight to avoid apprehension, escape, evading arrest, several similar charges, and several drug charges.
Rutherford is awaiting a preliminary arraignment.
