The Indiana Hoosiers football team won their first national championship in football after defeating the Miami Hurricanes 27-21 in the College Football National Championship game played in Florida. Indiana was led by Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who forced his way into the end-zone with the game-winning touchdown on a fourth-and-4 play in the final quarter.
