State officials say new variable speed signs across the Commonwealth have helped reduce the number of accidents during wintry weather.
A new study found that the Variable Speed Limit signs on I-80, I-81, and the Turnpike have led to 7 percent fewer accidents and a 34 percent decrease in serious injuries from crashes.
The signs give the state the ability to change the speed limits and send video board messages to alert drivers of impending snow squalls and other winter weather events.
