The Pittsburgh Penguins begin a five-game week – when they visit the New York Islanders tonight for a 7pm face-off. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:30pm. The Pens begin tonight in third place in the Metropolitan Division with nine games remaining in their regular season. They are a point behind the Islanders, who have played one more game than the Penguins.
The Columbus Blue Jackets lost in overtime to the Boston Bruins 4-3 Sunday, but have matched the Penguins point total. Columbus currently holds the final Wild Card playoff spot. The Blue Jackets are two points in front of Ottawa, Detroit and Philadelphia. The Flyers have won three games in a row to get back into the playoff hunt.
The Penguins return home after tonight’s game to host Detroit Tuesday.
The Pens allowed four goals to the Dallas Stars in the second period of Saturday’s 6-3 loss at PPG Paints Arena.
Both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin practiced with the team in Cranberry Township Sunday, but are both remaining day-to-day with injuries.
In addition to the back-to-back games tonight and Tuesday, the Penguins play Thursday on the road and then back home for back-to-back games Saturday and Easter Sunday.
