The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 in their three-game series opener last night. Both teams managed just four hits in the game. The Pirates had four singles and left eight men on base. They went 0-for-6 with Runners In Scoring Position.
Braxton Ashcraft started for the Bucs. He allowed both earned runs on four hits over six innings, a career-high. He walked four and struck out three.
In their first four games – the Pirates have gone 6-for-45 with runners in scoring position, and have left a total of 40 men on base. They are now 1-3.
The Reds host the Bucs tonight at 6:40pm. Bubba Chandler will start for the Pirates.
