The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Islanders 8-3 last night. After a scoreless first period, the Pens fell behind 2-0 and 3-1 in the second period before they scored seven unanswered goals. A total of eight goals were scored between the two teams in the second period. The Penguins added three goals in the third.
Anthony Mantha and Rickard Rakell scored two goals each. Justin Brazeau had three assists.
Sidney Crosby returned to the ice from an injury, and added two assists. He became the eighth player in NHL history to reach 1,100 assists in a career.
The victory moved the Penguins back into second place in the Metropolitan Division with eight games remaining in their season. They lead the Islanders by one point, and are now two points in front of Columbus.
The Pens are back home to host the Detroit Red Wings tonight at PPG Paints Arena. Face-off is 7pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:30pm.
All of the teams fighting for Eastern Conference playoff spots will see action tonight as well. The Islanders travel to Buffalo. The Blue Jackets host Carolina. Boston is home to Dallas. Philadelphia travels to Washington. Ottawa is visiting Florida.
