A family member of a man who died from carbon monoxide poisoning in the City of Butler over a year ago has filed a suit against the landlord.
Police were called to the 100 block of College Street last January for three people who were found dead. The deaths were caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.
Now, the sister of 62-year-old Thomas Reges of Butler, Mary Harding of North Carolina, is suing the landlord for negligence for her brother’s death.
According to the suit, one of the men living at the home complained to the landlord Douglas Gerzina about a gas leak.
Gerzina repaired a hose on the hot water heater and burst pipe, but the lawsuit claims the repairs were done incorrectly. 48-year-old Wendy Schettig of Butler and 69-year-old Jimmy Anderson of Virginia also died from the poisoning.
Harding is seeking an amount greater than $35,000.
