A bill that would require trans athletes to compete in their assigned gender from birth has passed through the State Senate.
The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 30 to 17 on Wednesday, mostly along party lines.
The bill would require student athletes in high school and college athletics to play sports with the gender they were assigned at birth.
“80% of people believe that biological men should not compete in women’s sports. The NCAA updated its policy for the women’s category to be student athletes assigned female at birth,” Senate Pro Tempore Kim Ward said.
The bill has been refereed to the House Judiciary Committee no word on when hearing will be held on the bill.
