Late last week the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced they have joined a coalition of states that oppose work restrictions on asylum seekers.
The Employment Authorization Reform for Asylum Applicants proposal from the Department of Homeland Security would limit asylum seekers ability to work.
Currently Asylum seekers can begin working 180 days after their application has been submitted.
DHS would want to extend that time limit to one year.
The L&I claims making that change would violate federal law and asylum seekers and their families.
