As two of the largest utility companies move forward with a proposed merger, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is holding telephone hearings today.
Essential Utilities announced plans to merge with American Water last October. The two organizations serve as the parent company for Peoples Natural Gas and Pennsylvania American Water.
The deal is worth an estimated $63 billion.
According to a company statement, there will be no change in rates.
The merger could be finalized by early next year.
The two phone hearings will be happening at 1 and 6 p.m. today.
