The Philadelphia Phillies swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in their three-game series over the weekend at PNC Park. The Phillies shutout the Bucs 6-0 for the second straight day. They came back from a 6-0 deficit Friday night to beat the Pirates 11-9 in 10 innings.
Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes did not allow a hit into the fourth inning, but was roughed up for two runs in the fifth, and allowed three more in the sixth before being pulled from the game.
Skenes tied a career-high by giving up five runs in five-plus innings. His career-best scoreless innings streak ended at 20 in the fifth inning.
The Pirates went 1-for-18 with runners in scoring position in the series. The Pirates have lost four of their last five games. They are off today and begin a three-game series in St. Louis Tuesday.
The Phillies are now 15-4 since interim manager Don Mattingly took over the team. They have not lost a series under his leadership.
The Pirates lost outfielder/first baseman Ryan O’Hearn to the Injured List with a right-quad strain. He was replaced in Sunday’s lineup by Jake Mangum, who was on the IL with a hamstring injury.
