Nonprofit blood services provider Vitalant is facing a critical shortage of type O blood and are urging people to donate blood.
Vitalant officials say they have seen a shortage of type O blood since May. The supply continues to decrease and has now hit a two-year low.
Travel and holiday activities around the 4th of July is one of the reasons donations drop off.
Type O blood is crucial because it can help anyone in need of a blood transfusion, regardless of blood type.
All that are interested in donating are being urged to make an appointment.
To schedule an appointment, you can call 877-25-VITAL (877-258-4825) or visit vitalant.org.
