A Butler man who threatened to kill a woman and then attempted to take his own life while on drugs has been charged.
Police were called to a home on the 100 block of Three-Quarter Lane in Clearfield Township on Wednesday just after 2 p.m. for 40-year-old Michael Harris threatening his wife with a weapon.
According to charging documents, Harris was on drugs and looking for his keys to leave the home and check into rehab. Instead, Harris took out a 12-gauge shotgun out, pointed it at the victim, threatened to shoot her, then pulling the trigger on himself but the gun was not loaded with ammo.
Harris left the scene and the victim told child in the home to leave the residence to a neighbor before Harris returned.
When police arrived on scene Harris had returned and was taken into custody and placed in the Butler County Prison, his bail was set at $125,000.
Harris was charged with endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, and terroristic threats. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 14.
