Knoch high school graduate Jordan Geist won his first United States championship Sunday, capturing the shot put title at the United States Track and Field Championships held in New York City. Geist went wire-to-wire for the victory, becoming the only thrower to top 22 meters at the championships. Geist topped a field that included a three-time Olympic Silver medalist, the reigning Indoor bronze medalist and another two-time Olympian. It was the best outdoor performance of his career. His previous best was fourth place in 2024 when he was edged out for the final spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
Geist won a silver medal in the men’s shot put at the World Athletics Indoor Championships back in March. The 28-year old is currently an assistant coach at Slippery Rock University.
