Harry “Sonny” Peterson, 90, of Butler, Pennsylvania went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Harry was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his charming presence will be dearly missed.
Harry was born on August 30, 1935 in Butler, Pennsylvania to Herbert and Luella Peterson. Harry graduated from the Butler Senior High School in 1953. Harry served as a as an active member of the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1956, and remained in the reserves until 1961. Harry graduated from Grove City College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. Harry retired from the Armco Hot Mill in 1997.
Harry is survived by his loving wife Judith (Weisenstein) Peterson of 61 years, his two devoted sons Jeffrey Peterson (Mindy Peterson) and Chad Peterson (Tiffany Peterson), by his beloved grandchildren Brooke (Peterson) May (A.J. May), Taylor (Peterson) Brantner (Justin Brantner), Bethany Peterson, and Ethan Peterson; and his dear great-granddaughter Charlotte May. He is also survived by his two sisters Luella Shook and Carol Angiolieri, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Harry O. Peterson was a true classic and the soul of his family. As an avid reader, coin collector, master gardener, and lover of The Far-Side comics, Harry embodied all the qualities of a genuine old soul. Harry was a gentleman who loved his family fiercely, leading them in love, and leading them to know the love of the Father. He will be greatly missed, yet his loved one’s rest knowing that he is at peace with his Father in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held in Harry’s honor at North Main Street Church of God, 1201 North Main St. Ext. in Butler on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at 3 p.m. The family invites all those whose lives were touch by Harry to attend. A reception will follow for the family.
