State police are urging people stay aware of potential scams.
They say residents are continuing to lose money by sending money and gift cards to scammers.
But, police are also seeing an uptick with in-person pickup scams. During these, criminals are meeting the victims at a location and collecting the cash or gift cards.
Police say to be cautious if something seems “too good to be true.” They also say to be vigilant of high-pressure tactics, instructions to keep conversations secret, and requests of payments via gift cards, bitcoin, or cash meet-ups.
