A push is underway at the federal level to make data centers pay for their own electric.
The Ratepayer Protection Act was introduced in Congress and it would require the companies building data centers pay for the electricity needed to power them.
Congressman Mike Kelly voted in favor of the act.
The bill also would have state utility commissions consider large-load standards for data centers drawing more than 100 megawatts of power.
