The Pittsburgh Pirates avoided a series sweep following a 7-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday afternoon. The Bucs scored five runs in the second inning. They had eight batters reach base after two outs in the inning. The Pirates were outhit for the first time in the series, but won the game. Konnor Griffin and Oneil Cruz drove in two runs. Catcher Henry Davis hit his 10th home run of the year, a two-run shot in the eighth inning. He also scored twice. The Pirates used six relievers in the game. Mason Montgomery earned his 14th save of the year.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals tonight at PNC Park. Game time is 6:40pm. Paul Skenes will start and it is a Zambelli Fireworks Night.
