The Pennsylvania Department of State has officially kicked off their high school voter registration engagement program for this school year.
The Civic Engagement Award program asks high school students to register to vote.
Schools that register 85 percent of eligible students receive Gold Awards and schools with 65 percent of eligible students receive Silver Awards. If a student works as a poll worker for November’s general election they will receive a Students Poll Worker Award.
This program has seen 33,000 students register to vote since it began in 2017-18.
To be eligible to register to vote a student must be U.S. citizens, residents of the voting district for at least 30 days, and at least 18 years old (or 17 years old and will be 18 on or before the next election).
To serve as a poll worker a student must be at least 17 and receive permission from their principle and a parent/guardian.
