A new report from the auditor general says the Department of Aging’s has vulnerabilities in preventing elder abuse.
The 80-page audit said the department’s oversight and investigations into elder abuse does not look at some key areas, including if an older adult was left at risk of harm.
“Older Pennsylvanians are falling through the cracks of a system that is designed to protect them,” Auditor General DeFoor said in a statement. “Older Pennsylvanians should be our priority. We are not hitting the mark. We need to do better and we can do better; I think everyone can agree on that.”
Auditor General Tim DeFoor was also critical of how long the department took to get information to his office.
The aging department disputed the audit, calling it a political move.
