The lockdown that impacted the Butler Area School District and surrounding schools has been lifted.
Butler Superintendent Dr. Brian White sent an email to parents saying the threat was determined to be a swatting incident and not a credible threat.
Butler first put the perimeter lockdown in effect around 11 a.m.
White says law enforcement does not believe the individual responsible for the threat was local. However, there has not been a suspect identified.
The threat also impacted a number of other county schools that either locked down schools or enhanced security today.
It also prompted state police to send troopers to schools in the county as a precautionary measure.
Parents were allowed to pick up their children at school, but were not allowed in the building. The surge of parents going to schools also led to traffic delays around the area this afternoon.
