John S. Wasylyk, 75, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 11, 2017 at his residence.
He was born February 15, 1942 in Passaic, New Jersey to the late Stanley Wasylyk and the late Emma Decker Wasylyk.
John attended Rutgers University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree and PhD. He went on to work for American Glass Research as a Ceramic Scientist and Engineer before leaving in 1991 to become an Independent Glass Consultant. John loved reading, gardening, cooking, swimming and golfing at Butler Country Club, and had a passion for all animals and especially his Westie, Gus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Deborah Smith Wasylyk, whom he married on November 8, 1969; two daughters, Wendy W. Laconi and her husband Scott of Butler, PA, and Rebecca W. Fernandez and her husband Matthew of Vancouver, WA; five grandchildren, Camden and Carson Laconi of Butler, PA, and Tess, Lily, and Noah Fernandez of Vancouver, WA; one brother, Stanley Wasylyk and his wife Sally of Scottsdale, AZ; and one sister, Elaine Kollmeyer Nixon of Canada.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received Tuesday, July 18, 2017, 2 – 4 pm at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
A Memorial service will be held immediately following at 4:00 pm with Father Harry R. Bielewicz, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
