The Rev. Reinhold Kuno Weber, known as “Dutch” to family and friends, died peacefully and entered his Heavenly home on Saturday, August 5th at the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople, PA.
He was 95 years old, having been born in 1921 in Teckendorf, Romania to Hans and Fidi Weber.
He emigrated to this country in 1925, where he graduated from Steelton, PA High School in 1939. He attended Wagner College in Staten Island, NY, where he met his wife of 66 years, Lois Reisch Weber. After graduation in 1943 he entered the US Army, serving as a Chaplain’s Assistant in the Philippines and Japan. He returned in 1945 and entered the Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia and was ordained in 1948. During his 69 years in the ministry he served parishes in Indiana, Greensburg, Butler, and Erie, all in Pennsylvania. Dutch was involved in numerous boards and committees of the Lutheran Church, as well as being a volunteer in many activities, such as PARC, Meals on Wheels and the Emmaus Kitchen. His ministry and volunteering continued in the 10 years at Passavant Retirement Community.
Dutch is survived by four children, Judy Schuster of Brunswick, OH, Mark Weber and his wife Lynette of Jacksonville, FL, Rick Weber and his wife Eleanor of Butler, PA, and Tae Ro and his wife Linda of Youngstown, OH; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, all who adored their Grandpa and Poppie.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2010 and by brothers Henry and Kurt.
Friends will be received Friday, August 11, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 10:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Dr., Butler, PA, where Dutch was named Pastor Emeritus earlier this year. Participating will be Bishop Kurt Kusserow, Pastor Joel Benson of Trinity, and Pastor Will Goetz of Passavant .
Officers and Members of the American Legion Post #117 Butler, The American Legion Post # 778 Lyndora, and the VFW Post #249 Butler will be conducting military honors at Trinity Lutheran Church.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 13th at 4:00 p.m. at Seaman Memorial Chapel at the Passavant Retirement Community.
