William R. “Bill” Hewitt, 76, of Bear Lane, Chicora, Donegal Twp., passed away while surrounded by his loving family early Sunday morning, September 10, 2017, following a short battle with cancer.
William was born in West Middlesex on June 9, 1941. He was the son of James Leroy and Mary Annabelle Rummel Hewitt. Bill was a graduate of West Middlesex High School, and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, WV. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking in the woods, and most especially vacationing with his wife, Darlene. Mr. Hewitt had been employed for more than 35 years with S.S. Kreske and K-Mart as a store manager, having served stores in Vermont, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. He retired in 1996. In his earlier years, Bill attended the West Middlesex United Methodist Church, and later the Fenelton United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hewitt is survived by his wife Darlene R. Fallen Hewitt, whom he married at the Fenelton United Methodist Church on May 22, 1971. Six children survive, Dawn M. Green, and her husband Michael, of Houston, TX, Marylou A. Schwartz, and her husband, Christopher, of Erlanger, KY, Dale E. Hutchison and his companion, Kim, of Chicora, Danie L. Dillman, and her husband, Thomas, of Tonawanda, NY, Billie L. Ambrusko, and her companion, Leonard, of Niagara Falls, NY, and Michelle L. Hewitt, of Buffalo, NY; a sister, Sandra Hummel Minner, and her husband Glenn, of Canton, OH; twelve grandchildren, Heather, William, Cory, Danielle, Katlyn, Kalissa, Jerrod, Collin, Justin, Aaron, Taylor, and Tia; eleven great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Dennis, Emmalynn, Graham, Gabriella, Cody, Sadie Grace, William “Bubs”, Kaylin, Brooklyn, and Bailey; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Noreen and Frank Moculski, of Butler; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Robert “Red” and Emmabell Hepler, and a brother-in-law, Terry Hummel.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora-Fenelton Rd., Chicora from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, and also at the West Middlesex United Methodist Church, 3123 Main St., West Middlesex, PA 16159 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday. A funeral service will follow from the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Michael B. Coats, pastor of the Fenelton United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will take place beside his parents at Haywood Cemetery in West Middlesex.
