The Slippery Rock University football team beat visiting CalU in overtime on Saturday night, winning by a final of 47-44.
CalU jumped to an early 17-0 lead before Slippery Rock answered in a back and forth game. The Rock scored the game tying touchdown with under 50 seconds left in regulation. Jake Chapla kicked the game winning 36-yard field goal for SRU in overtime.
For the Rock, Tanner Garry passed for 268 yards and two scores, and running back Chacar Berry ran for 88 yards and one score. Defensively, Marcus Martin led the team in tackles with ten, and finished with two sacks. Butler graduate Tim Vernick also recorded an interception. Both teams entered Saturday’s game nationally ranked in Division II, with Slippery Rock ranked 18th and CalU fifth.
