Michael Joseph Kovac, age 72, of Prospect, passed away early Monday morning, October 9, 2017, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital with his loving family by his side. He will be remembered as a courageous 3 year survivor of Pancreatic Cancer, where he kept a positive outlook on life and family.
Born December 1, 1944 in Astoria, NY, he was the son of the late Michael and Consuela Tedesco Kovac.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Prospect.
He retired as a Physicist from AGR, Butler, after 40 years.
Michael was a member of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and a member of the “Our Clubhouse” a cancer support organization in Pittsburgh.
Mike enjoyed being with his family, especially the beach vacations. He loved motorcycle riding, reading, discussing politics, fishing, music, and traveling worldwide for both work and pleasure.
He is survived by his wife Georgeann “Gigi” Flaccavento Kovac, who he married June 20, 1970; his children Stephen M. (Benjamin) Kovac of Saxonburg, PA; David A. (Tiffany) Kovac of Slippery Rock; Anna R. Kovac of Prospect; two granddaughters Taylor and Peyton Kovac; his siblings George (Lauren) Kovac of Zionsville, IN; John (Carolyn) Kovac of Franklin Square, NY; his sister in law Carol Kovac of Guntersville, AL; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Victor.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4pm to 7pm at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main Street, Prospect. Addition viewing will be held on Thursday, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church from 10am until time of service at 11am, 143 Church Street, Prospect, with Rev. Gary Brown, his church pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Prospect.
