Mary Catherine Yamnitsky passed away Monday morning, December 4, 2017 at the age of 87. Born on May 15, 1930 Mary was the eldest of ten children and daughter of William and Mary (Monroe) Smith.
Mary was a member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic church.
Mary married Steven J. Yamnitsky II, on August 22, 1953, and they were happily together for 54 years until her husband’s passing on August 6, 2007. Mary was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a Corporal WAC during the Korean conflict. She received an honorable discharge in September of 1953.
She loved to cook, crochet, read, play with her children and then grandchildren, and was an accomplished singer with an angelic voice throughout most of her life. She always had time for family and friends and never spoke a negative word toward anyone. She was a devoted wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Kerry of South Carolina; a son, Steven Yamnitsky III and his wife LeAnn of Saxonburg; a daughter, Peggy Shue and her husband John of Florida. – Three grandchildren: Dayne Kerr of South Carolina; Steve Yamnitsky IV and his wife Dawn of Saxonburg; Marlee (Yamnitsky) Smith and her husband Jared of Chicora. – Five great-grandchildren; Evelyn, Amelia, and Steven Conner Yamnitsky; and Kenlee and Cole Smith.
Also surviving Mary are four brothers: William, Jack, Donald, and Thomas Smith; and two sisters: Agnes Widenhofer and Rose McCall.
She was preceded in death by a brother: James Smith, and two sisters: Trudy Moore and Helen Carter.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham St. Butler, PA 16001 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday. A Blessing Service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday from the Funeral Home, Rev. Harry Bielewicz to officiate. Entombment will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.
