Jean Dorothy Dyer Federkeil, age 80, of Butler passed away in the Butler Memorial Hospital early Thursday morning, December 7, 2017, following a brief illness.
Born February 2, 1937 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Eleanor Spindler Dyer.
Jean had a special kind of love for children. She loved watching and helping to raise all of her grandchildren on the farm. She enjoyed driving school bus for many years for Bryan Brothers Bus Line in Prospect, where she transported kids for the Special Education Program at Slippery Rock University. She loved people and will be remembered for working in the deli and as a cashier at the former Bryan’s General Store, now the Prospect Corner Store.
Her hobbies were her women’s card clubs, reading, being a frequent patron at the Prospect Community Library, gardening, canning, and helping on her family farm at Level Crest Farm on Dick Road.
She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Richard D. Federkeil, who she married June 16, 1956, her children Lynne S. Ellis of Cranberry Twp., Cheri J. Newcomb of Butler, Richard D. (Sheri) Federkeil, Jr of Butler; her grandchildren Jamie (Joshua) Green, Brian (Katie) Ellis, Jill (Patrick) McCurdy, Christopher (Melissa) Newcomb, Alyssa Newcomb, Thomas (Gail) Hineman, Megan Hineman; her great grandchildren Mackenzie Green, Makayla Green, Riley Ellis, Stella Klein, Marin McCurdy, Maggie McCurdy, and Colin Hineman.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 1pm to 5pm at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main Street, Prospect. The funeral service will be on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 10:30am in the Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Oesterling, Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Prospect, officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.
