More Bon-Ton stores are closing.
The department store chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Sunday. A total of 17 stores in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin will close. Bon-Ton has dual headquarters in York, Pennsylvania and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
In Pennsylvania, the stores in Erie (Millcreek Mall) and Johnstown (The Johnstown Galleria) are among those to be closed. The Bon-Ton at the Clearview Mall in Butler County closed several years ago.
Experts say Bon-Ton has been hurt by shoppers’ changing behavior. Several dozen retailers have filed for reorganization over the past year as shoppers abandon traditional stores- including Toys R Us, Payless and Gymboree.
