James N. Wood, 92, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 17, 2018 at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born January 28, 1926 in Temple, Pennsylvania. His parents were the late H. Nelson Wood Jr. and the late Malinda McRoberts Wood.
He served in World War II in the U.S. Army in Europe. James worked as a teacher and a football coach. He later worked for Indspect. James loved the outdoors, gardening, and especially his family. He had an affinity for all things Pittsburgh where he grew up.
James is survived by his wife Iris, who he married on June 16, 1951, one son, David N. (Kathy) Wood of Elizabeth Twp, PA; one daughter, Judith L. Starr of Dryden, NY; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four nieces; nine nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Stephen A. Starr.
Friends will be received Tuesday, February 20, 2018, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA. A funeral service will be held immediately after visitation on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, 12:00 pm at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North St. Butler, PAwith the Rev. Barbara Stoehr of First United Methodist, officiating.
Private burial will take place in the Butler County Memorial Park.
