Butler City Council has signed off on a plan by a group of local residents to bring a weekly Downtown Concert Series to Butler this summer.
After hearing from representatives of Butler Downtown, city council approved a motion on Thursday to allow for a stage to be constructed in the North Main Parking lot at end of May to be used every Friday until the end of August. This entertainment would be held in conjunction with bike nights, car cruises, Foodie Fridays and other themed evenings.
Organizers maintain this would be a self-sustaining venture with expenses, like $5,000 for two port-a-potties, paid by advertising sold on the stage. Organizers have also already spoken to representatives from First Lutheran Church about reimbursement for using electricity. Volunteers would be responsible for cleaning up and other groups could also use the stage at other times.
This series will not be BYOB events like the gatherings in the West New Castle Street Plaza in years past. Instead, food and alcohol vendors will be approved by organizers and available to those who attend.
