William F. Walters, 88, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 4, 2018 at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born August 16, 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Harry Walters and the late Patricia Hampton Walters.
Mr. Walters was one the originators of the Butler County Fire School. He taught at the Fire School for over 30 years and attended every year since its inception. Mr. Walters retired from Butler City Fire Department in 1973 as assistant Fire Chief. He then worked for the VA Medical Center in Butler, PA as Fire Chief retiring in 1992. Mr. Walters was a member St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church. He served as a former Ordained Elder and Greeting Usher at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Mr. Walters was a former Elder at Lyndora Presbyterian Church. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in 88th Infantry Division during WW II in the Mediterranean Theater.
Mr. Walters is survived by his wife, Patricia, who he married on October 23, 1948; one daughter, Connie Steinberg of North Canton, OH; one son, William A. (Cindy) Walters of Butler, PA; six grandchildren; three great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Nanci Lang, and one brother, James Walters.
Friends will be received Saturday, April 7, 2018, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm & 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018, 2:00 pm at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North St. Butler, PA, with Pastor Merry H. Meloy, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Brownsdale Cemetery.
