Elmer A. Covert, 87, of Renfrew, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 25, 2018 at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 13, 1930 in Chicora, Pennsylvania to the late Harry R. Covert and the late Ethel L. Mottern Covert.
Elmer was a 1949 graduate of Butler High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Alaska during the Korean War. Elmer was a member the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora, life member of Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club. He worked at Pullman Standard until its closing, then went to work at Custom Bent Glass, retiring in 1992. Elmer enjoyed fishing year round and small game hunting. He was a member of North Butler Presbyterian Church..
He is survived by his wife Geraldine M. Covert whom he married on May 28, 1960; two sons, Scott Covert and his wife Michele of Chicora, PA, Chris Covert and his wife Janis of Renfrew, PA; one daughter, Shannan Dorcy and her husband Curt of Butler, PA; , seven grandchildren;, four great grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd (Snuffy) Covert of Chicora, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Covert, one sister, Mary Jane Herald, one brother-in-law, George Higgins, and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Covert.
Friends will be received at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA. on Saturday, April 28, 2019 from 12 (noon) to 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 4:00 pm with Reverend Mary Kitchens of North Butler Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Officers and Members of the American Legion Post #117 of Butler, American Legion Post #778 of Lyndora, and VFW Post #249 of Butler will conduct military honors at the funeral home.
