We now know when the South Butler School District and its teachers will sit down with their final offers in an effort to finally end the contract dispute between the two sides.
Ten days from now- on Monday, May 21- the district and the teachers will meet in a closed-door session at South Butler School District in front of a three-person arbitration panel. The panel is made up of attorney Tom King- who will representative the school board- a representative for the teachers and an arbitrator attorney.
Both sides will detail their ‘final best offers.’ Those offers have already been posted on the South Butler website. Members of the public are welcome to provide comments to the arbitration panel.
After the two sides meet, a decision from the arbitrator attorney must be made within 20 days. Each side will then have up to 10 days to take a vote on the proposed solution.
The South Butler teachers went on strike earlier this year after contract talks with the school board prolonged for years. The teachers were mandated to return to school so students would receive the mandated 180 days of instruction by mid-June.
