The third meeting of a community group targeting drug activity, addiction and other problems is planned for later this week.
Butler’s Neighborhood Drug Watch will hold their next meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside the Holly Pointe Conference Center on South Main Street in downtown Butler.
Organizers say the group is confronting the problem of drugs in the local community through education, working with law enforcement and recovery.
“We’ve had many residents reach out to us and provide us with information that has been quite helpful,” Lt. Chad Rensel, of the Butler City Police Department, said. “We were able to begin some investigations that we weren’t involved in beforehand and, in fact, a couple of investigations we were able to close out based on tips.”
The initiative of this month’s meeting will focus on medical marijuana. A guest speaker will talk about how the legalization could positively affect the local drug crisis.
Neighborhood Drug Watch yard signs and window signs are available for a small fee to Butler City residents at Don Paul Jewelers in downtown Butler.
