The Pittsburgh Pirates were unable to take advantage of the terrific pitching from Ivan Nova Friday night and lose 2-1 in 13 innings to Arizona.
Nova threw 8 scoreless innings with 8 strikeouts in the game. The Pirates had a chance to win the game in the 11th inning after Gregory Polanco scored on an error to tie the game at 1 but David Freese struck out and Elias Diaz grounded out to strand the winning run at third base.
The Bucs struck out 17 times in the game and only managed to get four hits. Pittsburgh is now three games under .500 for the second time this season.
