A Mercer County 5-year-old who received thousands of Christmas cards from around the state, and country, has died.
Hunter Houston of Mercer battled through a two-year fight against a rare childhood cancer known as neuroblastoma. He was sent home to receive hospice care a few weeks before Christmas, and that’s when his family started asking for Christmas cards, which seemed to bring a smile to Hunter’s face.
Hunter passed away on Monday. Funeral arrangements have not yet been posted.
“Hunter has touched the hearts of so many people and so many people helped bring a smile to his sweet little face with all the cards, gifts and prayers,” Hattie Hoffman Whetzel said Monday on the Hunter Houston Benefit page on Facebook.
