February is Black History Month and Slippery Rock University has several events scheduled to mark the occasion.
The theme of The Dream in Motion will give students the opportunity to explore the ideas articulated in Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 speech, while also discussing issues of inequality today.
More than twenty events will be presented throughout the month- including a kickoff event at 5 p.m. Monday in the SSC Ballroom with refreshments, music and other entertainment, as well as a Community Café discussion on Wednesday, and Black History Month Jeopardy on Thursday.
Other activities sponsored by SRU’s Office of Inclusive Excellence this month include an NAACP Founders Day Celebration on Feb. 12, movie viewings and discussions, a comedy show, soul food tasting and the Ebony Ball on Feb. 26.
