High School Sports:
Boys Basketball:
–Karns City defeated Moniteau 42-32. Chase Beighley and Nathan Waltman combined for 26 points to lead the Gremlins. The loss by the Warriors gives Keystone a full-game lead in the KSAC, and they will clinch the title with a win against Union Friday.
–AC Valley defeated Union 65-48.
–Freeport defeated Yough 37-34.
–North Catholic defeated Carlynton 78-46.
Girls Basketball:
–AC Valley defeated Union 64-33. The victory gave the Falcons their second consecutive Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference championship. AC Valley improved to 14-3 overall and 8-0 in conference play.
–Norwin-66 Butler-28.
–Fox Chapel-62 Freeport-57. Sidney Shemanski led the Yellow Jackets with 20 points.
–Keystone-50 Karns City-44.
Bowling:
–The Butler high school Boys and Girls Bowling teams swept North Allegheny 7-0 Wednesday during Senior Night at Family Bowlaway. The victories clinched section co-championships for both teams.
The Butler Girls were led by senior Jordyn Graham who rolled a 670 series with a high game of 279. Sophomore Reegan Malis added a 554 series.
The Butler Boys were led by senior Jordan Reges who rolled a 664 series (215-227-222). Junior Chris Huff added a 643 series with a high games of 234 & 226. Senior Cole Thrash added a 611 series.
Both Butler teams advance to the WPIBL Team championships next week, and via section tie-breakers, have guaranteed trips to the Pa Western Regionals in March.
The WPIBL Boys Team Championships are Wednesday, February 13th at Nesbit Lanes. Girls Team Championships are Thursday, February 14th at Noble Manor Lanes.
–Freeport swept St. Joseph in their final matches of the season. Mark Livingston led the Boys to a 5-2 victory with a 649 series. Senior David Kinniburgh added a 610. Jackie Clark had a 550 series to lead the Girls to a 7-0 victory.
–Shaler swept Seneca Valley. The Shaler Girls won 7-0, and will join Butler in the WPIBL Team Championships. The Shaler Boys won 5-2.
