High School Sports:
–The Mars Boys basketball team has reached the WPIAL 5A championship game after defeating Chartiers Valley 53-44 last night. Andrew Recchia led the Planets with 25 points. Michael Carmody added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Mars will face Moon in the title game Friday night at the Petersen Events Center.
Moon defeated Penn Hill s 59-46 in the other 5A semifinal.
–The North Allegheny Girls edged Nowrin 37-36 and will meet Peters Township in the Girls 6A title game Saturday.
In District-9: The AC Valley Girls defeated Keystone 38-27 in the 2A semifinals. Cami McNany and Kylee Eaton both scored in double figures for A-C Valley scoring 12 and 14 points respectively. The two combined to score all but two of the Lady Falcons points in the third quarter, when AC Valley broke the game open with a 16-2 run. The Falcons will meet Kane in the championship game.
Keystone ended the Karns City Boys season with a 56-54 victory in overtime. Keystone reaches the PIAA playoffs for the first time in nine seasons.
Tonight: The Butler Boys Basketball team will meet Pine-Richland in the 6A semifinals. Tip-off is 8pm at Fox Chapel high school. Tyler Friel will have the game on WBUT beginning at 7:50pm.
