No one was injured but a barn was completely destroyed Monday afternoon in Center Township.
Firefighters were alerted to a fully-involved barn fire at 455 West Sunbury Road (Rt. 308 just north of Holyoke Rd) about 12:15 p.m.
Assistant Chief Mike Pflugh of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company said the structure was insured and the total amount of the loss was around $150,000.
“Mainly what was in the structure was a tractor, a quad runner, a generator and miscellaneous farm equipment,” Pflugh said. “The barn also housed some goats and chickens, and they were all able to escape, except for a couple of ducks.” Three baby ducks were lost in the blaze.
The cause of the fire still remains undetermined. Although, many barns seem to catch fire because of the material they’re made out of. This is why more and more people are opting to have a steel barn instead of a wooden one. Steel buildings seem to be more flexible and less likely to catch fire. However, the most important thing is to ensure that whatever you chose to build your barn out of, the animals kept inside will be safe.
The shed in question will probably be rebuilt, it is unknown what material might be used to rebuild the barn, but there is a high possibility that steel buildings and materials, that can be found at places like www.factorysteeloverstock.com, will be used as a base to construct the new building on. As of yet though, no definite answer has been made.
The scene of the fire was cleared by 2 p.m and no one was hurt.
