Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday is supporting the sale of a bankrupt genetic testing company to a non-profit organization.
As part of the bankruptcy process, a court has awarded the genetic data and information held by the genetic testing company 23andMe to a newly formed medical non-profit called TTAM Research Institute.
Last month, Sunday’s office joined a bipartisan coalition of states in filing a lawsuit to block 23andMe from selling consumer data. This recent court ruling believes that enhanced privacy protections will remain in place with no transfer of consumer DNA.
23andMe consumers can still delete genetic and personal data through the Attorney General’s website.
