Butler County Community College has announced who will take over as interim president for the longest-serving president in school history.
By a unanimous vote of 15-0, the board of trustees appointed Megan Coval as interim president of BC3 effective May 16. Coval is taking over for Dr. Nick Neupauer, who served as president for 17 years.
“It’s an incredible honor for me to serve in this interim position,” the 40-year-old Coval said. “I feel very grateful that over my career I have had the opportunity to work in different areas of higher education. All of these experiences have in some way, shape or form been focused on access and affordability.”
Coval has served as the executive director of the BC3 Education Foundation since 2021. During her time she helped raise $7.5 million in funding for the new Victor K. Phillips Nursing and Allied Health Building on BC3’s main campus.
Coval graduated from Butler Senior High School and received her master’s degree in higher education administration from Penn State in 2006.
Board Chair Joseph Kubit said there is currently no end date for Coval interim tag as the board waits to see the impact of Governor Josh Shapiro’s “Blueprint for Higher Education.”
“What perhaps has magnified this presidential transition at Butler County Community College is the unknown impact of a new model for Pennsylvania’s community colleges,” Kubit said.
Kubit also says that Coval’s experience makes her appointment appropriate at this time saying there is a “need for a seasoned expert in relationship management, higher education prowess and government relations to succeed Dr. Neupauer.”
A decision about Coval’s current position will come at a later date.
