In an effort to avoid turning scalpers into the Grinch, lawmakers have proposed legislation that would ban auto buy bots.
When big purchase items go for sale online, such as concert tickets, new technology, and other highly anticipated items, “Grinch Bots” will buy as many items as possible when first going on sale online. Then resale the items or tickets marked up.
A new law proposed would ban the use of this software and add new security measures, access control systems, or other technology used to enforce state law.
The bill passed with bipartisan support 169-34 and will now move to senate committees before a vote on the senate floor.
