Butler County is going to be helping surrounding counties when a HAZMAT team is needed.
County commissioners approved multiple agreements that will have Butler’s HAZMAT team be a responder for large scale situations in Lawrence, Venango, Clarion and Mercer Counties. Each county is paying $2,500 to Butler.
Officials say the HAZMAT team will only be called for major incidents, and not things like fuel spills.
If expenses go over the $2,500 fee, the responsible entity will pay the fee to the outlying county, which in turn will reimburse Butler County.
