Today kicks off National Child Passenger Safety Week and PennDOT is urging drivers to get their car seats inspected.
Over the course of the week, state police will be conducting free car seat safety checks. Here in Butler, one is scheduled for Saturday at the Uniontown Fire Hall from 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
PennDOT officials say car seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury by up to 71 percent for infants, and 59 percent of toddlers.
However, they also add that almost 50 percent of car seats are installed or used incorrectly.
