Catherine V. “Katie” Double, 91, of Harrisburg, formerly of Chicora, passed away peacefully in the comfort her home in the company of her loving family Saturday morning, August 29, 2026.
Catherine was born in Roseville, near East Brady, Armstrong County, on June 4, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gladys Nezovich Kolich.
Catherine was a long time member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora. In her early years, Catherine was a skilled and competitive archer, winning multiple medals and trophies. She was a loving and supportive wife, helping her husband with social and fundraising functions during his leadership roles in the Chicora Rotary Club and the Chicora American Legion Post. Katie was an avid golfer and looked forward to golf outings with family and friends at St. Jude Country Club. In her early years, she enjoyed working part-time at the former Hemphill Market in Chicora. Katie loved children and often provided childcare for family and friends. In her retirement years, she spent many hours at the Chicora Senior Center making new friends and helping with events and fundraisers.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Double, whom she married at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend on April 7, 1951. Mr. Double preceded her in death on November 29, 2015.
Surviving is a daughter, Victoria “Vicki” Jackson and her husband, John of Harrisburg and Anthony “Tony” Double and his wife, Lori of Hershey; her grandchildren, Eric Jackson and his husband, Randy Trutt Jackson of Harrisburg, Joshua J. Shulik and his wife, Jacqueline of Gilbert, AZ, and Emily Woodward and her husband, Alex of Cyclone. Katie was affectionately “Gi Gi” to her great grandsons, Alexander Shulik of Gilbert, AZ and Cooper Trutt-Jackson of Harrisburg. Also surviving are her sisters, Maxine Benson of Butler and Jo Ann Fleeger and her husband, Larry of Chicora; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Judy Double of Karns City, Janet Cunningham of Saxonburg; her son-in-law, Andrew Gogal, and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna M. Gogal, her brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Leo Benson, Wayne Cunningham, and Curtis and Jo Anne Double, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Anthony and Mae Double.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday from Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, with the Rev. Matt McClain, pastor of Saints Francis and Clare Parish, officiating.
